Rescue

she doesn’t need you to rescue her
but she says she’s a poet
and she says she’s been hurt before
she says she wonders if she can love again

she doesn’t need saving
but she’s desperate
in her comments
in her private messages
she uses your words as her muse
she says you help her write something
beautiful for once

she knows just when to cry
and when to affirm
she reads you like a book
and she clings to your every word
you’re her life-raft

she claims she’s never felt so understood
she doesn’t need you to rescue her
but she keeps writing poetry
and it’s all about you

    • It’s my observation that that is often the case and then there are those who are users. Using another person for personal gain or gratification. A step up. Only they really know their true motives. Best to guard your heart and keep being that friend.

  1. In a conversation between poets, if there is a rescue, does it happen in the reading or the writing? Maybe that’s the wrong question. Maybe it is in the fact of conversation, of relating. Perhaps, that is where all rescues happen.
