poetry & short story author – artist & nature lover
you see what you want
you say I’m a star, blue and distant
maybe you’re not entirely wrong
I may be distant
but the cold shoulder isn’t without reason
the closer I draw in
your gravity, as such, is a magnet
I’m drowning
or at least
I would be
if not for the cold spaces between
I want to believe every word
every glance, every glimmer of a smile
you say what you want
carefully constructed
and sometimes carelessly tossed
feelings and heart be damned
you played me while I
played you too
hence the newly created expanse
floating forever, seemingly, alone
misheard and misunderstood
and lacking in, well,
all the things that must really matter
to you

How we dance around one another revealing only what we want them to see but hoping that we see all of them. Great piece, Tara.

Indeed, the vulnerability leads to delight and despair. Easy to get hurt feelings while still feeling the tug of hope.

Really loved the lines “you played me while I
played you too”

Thank you so much. I almost didn’t leave that line in, so I’m glad it worked for you.

How beautifully expressed. We play people sometimes not thinking of the long-term consequences. It might impact THEM and US as well!

Exactly. And there’s really no telling how far reaching such actions really will be when it’s all said and done.

I have always been awful at giving someone the cold shoulder because sometimes when they hurt me, I want to but I just can’t seem to – and it’s a skill I wish I had – to protect myself because sometimes it’s the only way like you say. I find most people very cold – but that’s totally different to giving someone the cold shoulder because they’ve hurt you or you are protecting yourself.

There’s, perhaps, a fine balance between not being able to give the cold shoulder and being far too good at it.
