Fields Under a Blue, Blue Sky

Foot on the fence post
Looking out on the land
The sky seems bluer these days
She told me she loved me
With her dying last breath
Seventeen years, today
Back when I was young and alive
Stars and dreams on the horizon
Me and Molly kept on without her
Sunsets never look the same
But today I heard her voice
In the western wind
And I know my time’s near done
Molly’s got her own baby now
All this would always be hers
I’ll be coming soon, my Agatha dear
And the blue sky will be even bluer

Written for a photo prompt over on @jessmischke‘s IG page which I don’t typically do prompts but I saw the photo and this immediately popped into my head…

    • Thank you so much Michael. (Also, I don’t know why, but your comments NEVER send me a notification. I only ever see them if I happen to click on my own page…. so if I ever ignore a comment you’ve made, it’s a WP issue, okay? And it’s been this way for the couple years I’ve followed you. 🤷🏼‍♀️)

  1. tara, this reads like a great modern-western movie,
not so modern that it’s digital or green-screened.
we can hear the celluloid miles spooling, reel to reel,
over our shoulder in the projectionist’s box room.
