Break the Bonds

let us break the bonds
of time and space
for you see me
as no one has ever seen me

I’m filled with joy and laughter
(what is this thing you’ve placed in me?)

we, you and I,
rise out of this atmosphere
and transcend
all that’s come before
or will in the future
for we are beyond
this simple thing known as
time

I once locked my heart away
and skillfully hid the key
until I met you
no one had even looked for it
instead
they attempted to force it open,
to trick it open,
to woo it open,
to assume it would open,
to lie and cheat and steal it open

but you,
you proved to me
that you were the one
who said my name all those years ago

you worked for it
you searched and
you found it didn’t you?
and then you discovered my door
you slid the key in

and you watched me
delved into all the deeper parts of me
held me and moved me and
how can this be!
you, who remains so far removed,
still hold the key
but I say: rise up!
take what is yours!
break through the barrier…

but that’s no longer your way is it?

instead, now you wait and
you listen and
you speak of traveling the stars
hand in hand
yet, I’m still grounded

give me wings made from dirt and tears
let us float among the stars
from here through eternity
ever together

  1. Where do I start? You have captured the truth. We tend to manipulate ourselves to make things happen. When reason is paramount, then truth prevails. You, my friend, have the handle on how to communicate in words. I am touched.

  2. This is just awesome! I love how you extended out the idea of a key to the heart and made it much more relatable and interesting. This part is so good:

“they attempted to force it open,
    to trick it open,
    to woo it open,
    to assume it would open,
to lie and cheat and steal it open”

Oh, the dangers of certain relationships!
