System Failure

I’d like to replace my heart
the latest model available
using dials and numbers
cogs and wires

a cold calculating machine
all the hurts, disappointments
unable to penetrate
the reality that is me

input, output
facts and observations
be it love or pass-me-by
would I still remain untouched?

        1. It’s creative, I like what you did there 🙂 I haven’t written software on a regular basis since the 90s while I was in law school lol… finished my JD, went back into tech but moved away from programming, except the occasional script or shell/bat programs.

  2. “::rewrite, rewire, reboot::”

    I remember fondly the days of wire-wrap, entering my code using cards or paper tape, memory on real core, ceramic hard drive platters a centimetre thick, printers, bursters, decolators …

    rewire is fine, but don’t let anyone do it for you.

    reboot when you are ready.

    rewrite it yourself. compile it yourself, from a compiler you compiled yourself …

  3. Alright, first off, I’m mad because I didn’t think of this scheme first.

    Second, I’m in love with this piece. Especially with regards to the diagnostic prompts triggering true or false values (not counting the paradox value there, it can’t be either/or, it has to be one, so nice touch there) and finally the system reaching the next stage, the “2”, something beyond just binary, beyond just basic construct of finite combinations, to something else and the system can’t take it.

    Wow. Seriously.

    1. Yes! I’m quite the nerd, I know. But I love maths, and numbers, and statistics, and maybe coding a bit. It’s sexy. There was a time when just for fun I would write if/then stories on my graphing calculator and do calculus.
      So I guess it follows, what if I could replace my heart with the cold, calm reasoning of the computer? I worked through it in my mind, and I reasoned that, knowing me, this would be the logical conclusion of my own heart.

  4. Wonderfully piece Tara and such an interesting foundation for additional works. It would certainly level the pain but also the highs. I suppose at some point the high is too elusive or infrequent. I hope that is never the case for you. 😘

  5. Such an original perspective on wistful love! So much packed in so little.
