Sunset Always Brings Reminders

she slips her fingers through her hair
as molten drops of the setting sun
rest like dew upon her brow

she remembers his lips like rose petals
along her throat
she remembers his voice
and the way he said her name

wrapping her arms around her knees
she closes her eyes and lifts her face
the dying embers of the reddening sky
still warm upon her cheeks

she remembers how he held her
tight as if he didn’t want to leave
she remembers his final words
and the way her heart skipped

she sighs
she smiles

  1. sometimes the memories i hold of things that make me cry are the sweetest memories of all.

the saying about ‘better to have loved and lost than never to have loved’ (however it is) is so true. if something sinks into me like such a huge loss how lucky am i to know what it was …

  2. Great imagery, Tara! I really like the parallel between the sunset and the memory. The light fading from the sky, the sun “still warm upon her cheeks” mirroring the way she can still remember and feel her lover even though he is no longer present with her.
