She lay upon her bed, curled up, slowing unfurling like the petals of the lotus rising from the muddy waters of all the past hurts and sins
His love in contrast was the sun’s rays kissing her edges, inviting her to open herself fully to him
Dirty, sinful drops slipping harmlessly away, not a trace left behind
Oh how she viewed herself as filthy and worthless, coming from such a past
But his love shone down brightly, shedding truth and light, enticing her true beauty forth
She turned her face to his, her lips parting
He kissed her then, held her there, breathing fresh life into her lungs
For a moment she felt as if she could begin again, only with him there to caress her pretty pink petals, coaxing her open, showing the world who she really was
When night fell, she faded, closed herself to those around her, sunk deep beneath the muddy surface again
Cloaking herself in darkness
But then as morning rose, his countenance pure, the heat of his love for her
She found herself rising once more above the mire which had sought to cling to her heart and bury her soul
Yes, rising and glowing and growing and smiling and totally completely his

Tara, I loved this, especially the first two paragraphs which have such a lyrical and graceful beauty to them. They would sound beautiful spoken aloud too. Sometimes the love of another helps us shed the parts of ourselves covered with shame. That love, helps us grow.

Absolutely! I am fascinated by the lotus. How it emerges from the mud but it doesn’t stick. Etc. I may read this aloud just to see how it sounds ☺️
