Though far away you’re perfect for me
My soul for yours and yours for mine
And though the miles separate us
We’ve dueling heartbeats
Entwined completely
Oh that I had wings, my love!
I would come to you
Rap upon your window
Lift me gently
Hold me in the palm of your hand
I’ll rest there for all my remaining days
Better still
Allow me to build up your heart
I will cradle you close
Keep you there until my last breath
My arms around you
My ear upon your breast
Puh-thump, puh-thump, puh-thump
Your lips brush my hair
And I hear you whisper my name
Ten thousand star-filled nights
Becoming our home
And while you pace the hall
Words bursting from your very pores
I’ll rise and grasp your hand
Tug you back to our bed
Absorb all the tears and the longing
The self-loathing and brokenness
Make them mine so your soul may rest
An hour or two of sleep
And rising again
Your words will become love and life
As you are mine and I am yours
Two hearts made one

Me too! It was the phrase that I wrote the poem around.

I find turns of phrases or a particular image are great places to start. My poem ‘Stump’, for example, was inspired by a lone tree stump at the side of a busy main road that I drove past each day. It became a metaphor for the person cut down and cast aside in a relationship.
I’m enjoying your poetry, Tara. Keep up the good work. 🙂

I really like this part:
‘Absorb all the tears and the longing
The self-loathing and brokenness
Make them mine so your soul may rest
An hour or two of sleep’
Amazing work, as always.

The miles of separation is temporary. The stars are forever. We are.
