Drifting Along

floating in a world of wet
this small pond my haven
arms fluttering gently
keep myself afloat
thoughts stretch as time fades
senses take over

I gaze into the heavens
clouds soundlessly drift overhead
bright blue of the summer sky
blue within blue within blue
blazing too bright white sun
squeezing exposed skin

quiet breathing
whosh-whooosh-whosh-whooosh
overlaid with my pit-pat heartbeats
transported underwater
birds of a dozen names
chirupping or whistling or cooing
leaves rustle on the shore

the soft caress of
my long curls swirling about
in my self-made current
the warm shallow water
silently makes love to my naked flesh
lapping and licking
cold and hot
tempting and teasing

perhaps I will drift along all day
just me and my senses
and these lazy drawn-out summer thoughts
