Magnetism

Hey you
I love you, okay?
Please don’t ask me why
because
I rapidly swallow
a hundred reasons
from behind my teeth

Sometimes
when you can’t hear me
I whisper your name
followed closely by,
don’t you know how much I love you?!

Desperation coats my tongue
the pit of my stomach
feels heavy and cold
I miss you

I just can’t fathom life without you in it
You fill all those empty places
all the cracks and crevices
that fracture me
heart and soul
Don’t you know how much I love you?!

Fuck but my heart hurts
I miss you
Oh! Your voice in my ear
my hands, yours
those random texts here, there

I used to pretend
sometimes
if I’m honest
that some of those poems
were about me
(I know they aren’t)
but still, I did

It was like
for a moment
we were bound together
and you
you felt the same about me

I know I’m ridiculous
I’m also in love

I’ve examined my heart and mind
weighed out the truth against
wishful thinking
I love you, okay?

Your face
is the only face I have memorized
the only one that I can conjure
in my mind’s eye
though my aphantasia says
that’s impossible
Yet it’s the honest truth

The compass of my heart
of my mind
turns towards you
You are my True North
I can’t resist your pull
and I’m not sure I want to

Say the word
and I will come to you

    1. Thanks River. That makes my heart smile. Have you ever known anyone, friend or lover, who you can just feel your inner being ‘turning’ towards? That’s how it is for me and certain people. I’m a bit fascinated by it, actually.

  1. How can anyone in their right minds not be touched by how you write? OK. Let me rephrase that. I really liked this one as well. It must have been your direct approach of saying, “Hey you, I love you okay?” I might have a bone in my head, but I understood that statement right away…
