Suture

examining her pretty blues
I saw the traces of bite marks
along her eyelids
each red mark filled
with dried tears and
the echoes of heartache

laying my tongue along each divot
I tasted the memories of
neglect and self-loathing
the lies and the deceit and the abuse
I tasted turmoil and lost hope

oh how my heart ached
for the child of lost innocence!
oh how my heart burned
with righteous judgment!
oh how my hands shook
to replace cracked foundations!

I kissed her gently
holding her face near
then pressing it to my breast
letting her listen to the sound of love
puh-thump puh-thump puh-thump!

now with her pain running
through my collapsing veins
I did the only thing I knew how
grabbing my needle and thread
I used those puncture holes
and sutured her eyes closed

she’ll never see hurt again

      1. I can see a few interpretations of this but the one that really sticks with me is probably pretty far off from what you were thinking when you wrote it. I’m seeing a sad desperate person trying to get away from their pain by shooting up to escape reality. For some reason, I keep seeing the spoon and needle when I read this.

      1. Only you, my friend, would know what those two words mean :).

You’re too talented. I have so much to read from you. I’ve been doing drive-by posts, not enough enjoying of all the pretty posts others have…especially you.

I’m a tad drunk tonight, but the type of drunk that has perfect spelling and grammar–it’s weird. Maybe I’m manic. Anyways, you’re my fav WP creator. I’m happy to see you have so many new followers; you’re a skillful writer with so much to say. You’re special. I think I’m manic. But you’re still awesome. Okay, squirrel, comma, back to reading…I’m crazy :).

      2. You’re awesome B. And that comment made me really really happy. You have no idea (and I’m a tad buzzed myself, so there ya go 😉). Hey! Perfect time to collab!! LOL I’m kidding, I’m kidding.

  1. Now I was NOT expecting that ending. But, there is something to be said about coloring the eyes of someone you love to shield them from the things that hurt them. The macabre nature of how you chose to speak this is a different matter entirely: it is entirely my kind of beautiful, that image. So thank you for this one: it was compassionate, loving, affectionate and came bundled with a twist at the end. LOVE it!

    1. To be honest, I had someone special in mind as I wrote this, but I doubt she’ll recognize it for hers. That’s okay too. It means something to me either way. Am I talking to myself… or to her? Well, that’s a conversation better left for me and myself to discuss (and maybe her too if she joins in) 😉
