Let Me Dream

Could I lay my head here in your lap
For just a while?
Let me dream
As your fingers pass through my hair
I’ll imagine for just a few minutes
That you are mine
And I am yours
That you love me
Beyond reasoning
That you could never let me go
I’ll picture you smiling down at me
Before kissing me gently
Perhaps passionately
You’ll press your thumb to my cheek
Then wipe away my tears
Perhaps we’d gaze into one another’s eyes
Or stare deep into the flames of the hearth
Either way
We could see visions of our future
Together
Wrapped in each other’s arms
Laughing
Sharing
Crying
Triumphing
Passionate nights
Glorious days
Please let me stay in this moment
For but a little while longer
Maybe
Perhaps
If I lay here long enough
You’ll feel it too
Your hand will trace my jaw, my throat
You’ll feel my heart beating for yours
And in that moment
A flash of sudden revelation
We would both realize that
I was always truly a piece of you
And you were always a part of me
If only you would let me
Lay my head in your lap
For just a little while
